  • Navigating uncertainty, fear, shame, or guilt

  • Religious trauma support

  • Faith alongside ERP and treatment

  • Building trust in yourself, your values, and your recovery journey

2

For Clinicians

We collaborate with clinicians to support their work with clients navigating faith and OCD to help with:

  • Utilizing religious literacy for culturally responsive treatment.

  • Understanding, developing, and navigating faith-based exposures during ERP.

  • Differentiating religious rituals from compulsions.

  • Encouraging clients to "have faith" in the treatment itself.

  • Spiritual support for clinicians navigating personal or professional struggles.

We also offer training for clinicians to better understand the intersection of OCD, faith, and treatment, equipping providers with tools to support their clients more effectively.

Support for Clergy

We support faith leaders seeking guidance as they navigate OCD and mental health challenges within their communities. Depending on the recommendation of the care team, she may meet with the clinician, client, family members, and/or faith leaders to address:

  • Supporting community members navigating OCD.

  • Addressing their own OCD or mental health challenges while serving their communities.

  • Creating safe spaces for mental health discussions and advocacy within their faith communities.

How Sacred Spark Sessions Can Support Different Communities

Our Approach

SWTI approaches faith and OCD work through an interfaith, culturally responsive, and collaborative lens. We recognize that spiritual beliefs, practices, identities, and communities can deeply shape how OCD is experienced and understood.

Rather than assuming one universal experience of faith or treatment, Sacred Spark Sessions aim to support individuals, clinicians, and clergy with humility, curiosity, respect, and evidence-informed care across traditions and lived experiences.

Because this work is deeply personal and culturally nuanced, we also recognize that not every religious tradition, topic area, or lived experience is currently represented within our growing team. We are continually working to thoughtfully expand Sacred Spark Sessions with providers from diverse backgrounds, traditions, specialties, and perspectives in order to offer the most supportive and culturally responsive care possible.
